Children’s Spring Story Lab | Listening & Play

What That Means Here

Play is not chaos.
It is focused imagination applied to story.

Students work with short scenes and storytelling pieces drawn from age-appropriate scripts. They learn how to understand what is happening, who they are in the moment, and what they want from the person in front of them.

We build:

  • Story awareness — where the moment begins and what changes

  • Listening that affects the next line

  • Clear physical and vocal choices rooted in circumstance

  • Ensemble awareness instead of spotlight behavior

  • Confidence that comes from preparation

Improvisation is used to deepen circumstance and imagination — not to fill time. It helps students explore relationships before committing to scripted work.

When a scene loses clarity, we pause.

We examine the story.

We rebuild the moment with intention.

Students learn everything the actor does on stage is intentional.
Students learn that confidence comes from knowing what they’re doing and not from guessing and flailing.

What Happens Each Week

  • Focused voice and breath work

Adult Scene Lab | Spring 2026

Listening & Relationship

Adult Scene Lab is a 7-week training cohort for adults in Kerrville who want structured scene work and consistent, direct feedback.

This is a working room.

  • You’ll be assigned scenes.

  • You’ll rehearse outside of class.

  • You’ll present the work.

  • You’ll receive notes.

  • You’ll adjust and repeat.

Improvisation is used — not as entertainment — but as preparation.

We use it to deepen circumstance, clarify behavior, and expand imagination in service of the script.

This is not about performing well in the moment.

It’s about building repeatable control.

The Work

Each week we focus on how behavior emerges from text.

We train:

  • Listening that alters your next action

  • Clear objectives rooted in circumstance

  • Specific physical behavior instead of general emotion

  • Breath and voice that support intention

  • Blocking that reveals relationship

  • Scene transitions that maintain tension

If something lacks clarity, we stop and examine it.

We isolate the problem.

We rebuild the moment with intention.

You’ll understand what you’re doing — and why

    Private Youth Acting Coaching is for young actors who need focused skill-building beyond group class pacing. Sessions reinforce blocking, vocal clarity, stage presence, memorization discipline, and scene partner awareness in a structured, age-appropriate format. Ideal for students preparing for auditions, showcases, school productions, or building foundational craft with individualized feedback and clear correction. One-on-one training accelerates confidence because it removes noise and targets exactly what needs strengthening.

    TEEN PRIVATE COACHING

    Teen Private Acting Packages provide technical refinement for serious students ready to level up. Sessions focus on stage geography, vocal control, emotional containment, script analysis, and partner responsiveness under pressure. Designed for teens preparing for auditions, conservatory programs, competition monologues, or leadership roles in productions. Training is direct, specific, and standards-based.     ADULT PRIVATE COACHING

    Adult Private Acting Coaching is individualized technical training for actors who want precision, not playtime. Sessions address blocking control, breath and vocal command, energy placement, given circumstances analysis, and truthful listening. Ideal for returning performers, audition preparation, monologue development, or adults entering the craft seriously for the first time. Work is structured, focused, and immediately applicable to stage performance.

    Theatre credits include Off-Off-Broadway (Jean Cocteau Rep–style classical and contemporary work), regional and summer stock productions, and a Carbonell Award nomination for Killer Joe. She has national commercial credits (Red Lobster), commercial print work (AT&T), and book-cover modeling for major romance imprints.

    Charlie is also a Doctor of Ministry, a Board-Certified Clinical Spiritual Provider, and a Master Certified Life Coach with 15+ years as a trauma-aware, child -and family-centered educator. She now leads The Hornes Studio | Hill Country Acting Collective & Story Lab, bringing professional-grade craft, imagination work, and truthful storytelling to children and adults in Kerrville

    Dr. Charlie M. Hornes is a conservatory-trained, union-credentialed actor with a career built in New York City, Miami, and major studio sets. A BFA graduate of Marymount Manhattan College, she trained in Stanislavski, Meisner, Strasberg, and Stella Adler under master teachers from the Jean Cocteau Repertory. Her NYC coaching lineage traces directly through Rod McLucas, Richard Niles, Adrienne Williams, Bill Bordeaux, and Pat Hoag Simon.

    Her professional credits span DreamWorks, Castlerock, HBO, NBC, CBS, FOX, MTV, and the Law & Order franchise. She worked on camera and behind it, serving as stand-in and rehearsal partner for Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mariska Hargitay, and Christopher Meloni. Her technical work included precision marks, blocking with leads, and supporting lighting and DP teams on fast-moving studio sets.
