Children’s Spring Story Lab | Listening & Play

What That Means Here

Play is not chaos.
It is focused imagination applied to story.

Students work with short scenes and storytelling pieces drawn from age-appropriate scripts. They learn how to understand what is happening, who they are in the moment, and what they want from the person in front of them.

We build:

  • Story awareness — where the moment begins and what changes

  • Listening that affects the next line

  • Clear physical and vocal choices rooted in circumstance

  • Ensemble awareness instead of spotlight behavior

  • Confidence that comes from preparation

Improvisation is used to deepen circumstance and imagination — not to fill time. It helps students explore relationships before committing to scripted work.

When a scene loses clarity, we pause.

We examine the story.

We rebuild the moment with intention.

Students learn everything the actor does on stage is intentional.
Students learn that confidence comes from knowing what they’re doing and not from guessing and flailing.

What Happens Each Week

  • Focused voice and breath work

  • Imagination exercises that expand circumstance

  • Partner scene work

  • Coaching and repetition

  • Clear, age-appropriate notes, learning how to positively receive and implement constructive feedback - not criticism.

  • Adjustments applied immediately

Students see how effort changes outcome.

What Parents Will Notice

Over seven weeks, students begin to:

  • Speak with more clarity and intention

  • Listen more fully before responding

  • Stay in relationship instead of rushing lines

  • Accept guidance without defensiveness

  • Prepare independently

The growth is steady.

Skill replaces stage-fright guessing.
